Ever since I started my support of the New York Yankees back when I first can remember in 1993 I have been scrutinized and harassed because I was a front runner and had not a clue about anything that goes on in baseball. All this went in one ear and out the other and I was rewarded in 1996 when the Yanks went on to win their first of four World Series titles in five years. This just made the criticisms come more frequent but I didn't care because it seemed like they would never lose. Now it's been a long seven years since the Yankees have won a World Series and the Yankee haters are out in full force claiming that the Yankees are horrible, wont win another title, etc. All we must do here is look at facts and as of right now the Yankees are a minor two games out of the playoffs with over a month to go and eight games out of first place, with six games left with the Red Sox and even though it is a long shot to catch Boston, "it ain't over till it's over" just like '78.
Actually since the last time I updated my blog the Yanks were playing horribly but these past 2 days they have handily taken care of the Red Sox and are going for the sweep at 1 o'clock today. I have all the confidence in the world now that I see how they can play when the pressure is on and they have really proven to me and the rest of the world that this isnt a team that is just going to lay over and croak but this is a team that is looking to not only make it to the playoffs but go far and hopefully bring home the 27th title in their storied history. As of right now the Yankees are tied with the Mariners for the last playoff spot and are locked up with Seattle next week for a crucial 3 game series that could have some serious playoff implications.
I have made it to 11 games this year at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and 90% of the time I sat in the right field bleachers with the true Yankee fans the "bleacher creatures". These guys that sit over here are crazy and if you do something thats not approved for the bleachers like do stupid chants, wear suits and ties, talk on your cell phone, etc. they will get on you for a good portion of the game. They get on you just as much as they do to the right fielders on the other teams. They have chants that have been going on for years there and they also created one of the most unique part of going to a Yankee game and thats the role call when everyone in the bleachers stand up and salute each player on the field by chanting their name and they all acknowledge the fans by giving a wave or a point to the bleacher creatures. I am making myself to one more game this year in late September and hopefully it will be of some meaning and hopefully just be the beginning of their playoff push in '07.
